As I explored what it took to be a web developer, I learned many surprising things. For example, I didn't know that a website's lifespan is 2 to 3 years. On this website, you will learn about the job of web developing.
What does a web developer do?
Well, it may seem simple, but a web developer ... creates websites!
The top web developers make about $100,000 a year and the average web developer makes about $60,000. But most people who create websites do it for passion more than money.
Web Developer's Responsibilities
- Building websites using technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Changing and updating websites according to a company or client’s specifications. (communication)
- Make sure that websites are visually engaging and user-friendly.
- Working with other people, such as content creators, copywriters, graphic designers, etc (collaboration)
- Testing websites and troubleshooting any problems
How do I become a web developer?
There are many different paths to becoming a web developer. It depends how much you know about coding and how well you can code. If you happen to be advanced, there are not many barriers to entry. You can join a company, create your own company, or work locally. So if you're already advanced, you can practice more to sharpen your skills.
If you don't have much knowledge, you need to begin by taking up classes and practicing. Then work your way up to different types of code and sharpen your knowledge.
Regardless of whether you have to earn your way up the ranks, or can take a shortcut, web developers need to possess the following traits:
- Having knowledge and how to use HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc
- Degree(s) in web design and development, multimedia design, digital media development, and interactive computing
- Smart
- Having level 2 award/certificate in Creating a Website, Interactive Media, and level 3 Diploma In Information Technology (Specialist), Diploma in IT User Skills
- Great working on a team
- Having skills such as attention to detail, problem-solving, time management, etc.
Should You Become a Web Developer?
Based on my research, I would like to be a Web Developer! I am passionate about coding and this is something I would do. Also, my cousin had a job making websites and I would like to follow in his footsteps.
